Thank you, Senate President pro Tem Toni Atkins, for championing homeownership for all  in California.

The California Association of REALTORS® thank Senate President pro Tem Toni Atkins for her work to secure significant funding in the 2022-2023 budget to create homeownership opportunities for working Californians.

This funding includes substantial investments in the state’s CalHome program, and an innovative new state-funded down payment assistance program, California Dream for All. These investments will create desperately needed affordable housing and will provide opportunities for working families to purchase their first home.

These investments will help deliver the clear benefits of homeownership to more working Californians. Given California’s diverse population, the benefits will be particularly valuable for those communities that have experienced discrimination in housing and face lower rates of homeownership at present.

Homeownership opens the door to true housing and economic security, better health and educational outcomes, and building generational wealth.  Now more working Californians can join the homeownership housing ladder leads to economic security.

The 2022-2023 California State Budget Includes:

$250 million for CalHome, which will directly increase the supply of affordable ownership housing.
$500 million for Toni Atkins’ new California Dream for All Program, which will make homeownership more attainable for the state’s working families and support traditionally underserved communities as they build generational wealth.
These programs are a critical step forward in addressing California’s severe homeownership affordability and housing equity crisis.

Thank you again to Senate President pro Tem Toni Atkins for her leadership.
