CONGRESS: SUPPORT HOUSING AND HOMEOWNERSHIP
COVID has taught us that having a safe place to live can’t be overvalued. Millions of households in neighborhoods across the country are looking for that stability now, and Congress must prioritize housing and include provisions to support it in the final reconciliation bill.
The California Association of REALTORS® is asking that Congress include the housing provisions from the House Committee on Financial Services (HCFS) reconciliation package in the final bill. The nation is struggling with a housing crisis that is impacting all communities. The package assembled by the HCFS is a broad and aggressive proposal to assist every rung of the nation’s housing ladder; there is support for the homeless, affordable housing, rentals, and homeownership.
Key elements proposed include funding to help first-generation homebuyers, to improve enforcement of Fair Housing laws, and to preserve and create hundreds of thousands of affordable housing units.
This is the kind of help households and communities across the country need.
